RFidIndia Expo 2007, 4th International Conference and Exhibition of RFID Technologies and Applications, successfully concluded on September 15, 2007, with about 60 exhibitors from all over the world. RFidIndia Expo 2007 was co-located with SmartCards Expo 2007, No.1 Smart Card Exhibition in Asia, e-Security Expo 2007, BiometricsIndia Expo 2007, India's first biometrics exhibition, and IndiaMobile Forum 2007. In all, over 200 exhibitors from about 25 countries participated in these events to display smart card, biometrics, RFID, security and mobile telephony products, devices and solutions. The events attracted more than 8000 visitors from all over India and neighbouring countries.
According to Frost & Sullivan, the Indian RFID market in 2006-07 was worth Rs.585.6 million (US$ 14.9 million) which is likely to grow to Rs.6907.4 million (US$ 176 million) by 2010-11, growing at a CAGR of 85.5 percent.
The major growth drivers for the Indian RFID market are: automotive sector, which is scaling up its automation levels to emerge as the global manufacturing hub; emergence of large scale operators in the Indian retail sector with substantial need for automation; logistics and transportation sector to increase move towards automated payment for services and track & trace operators and Government sector adopting technology for a slew of initiatives aimed at improving quality of life for citizens.
Emerging applications like animal tracking, library management, vehicle tracking, patient tracking, ticketing and baggage tracking are anticipated to contribute significantly to top the market by 2010-11, according to Frost & Sullivan.
A key Government initiative in the field of RFID was de-licensing of the use of 865-867 MHz @ 4 w ERP for RFID. This has given a great spurt to RFID applications in the country.
