BiometricsIndia Expo 2007, the FIRST ever biometrics Exhibition and Conference in India, received an overwhelming response from vendors as well as business visitors.  BiometricsIndia Expo 2007, which was co-located with SmartCards Expo 2007, e-Security Expo 2007, RFidIndia Expo 2007 and India Mobile Forum 2007, was held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, during September 13-15, 2007.  About 200 exhibitors from 28 countries participated in these events, of which about 40 countries displayed Biometrics products and solutions.

Biometrics, an automated recognition of individuals based on their behaviour and biological characteristics, is being adopted globally as a highly secured identification and personal verification by the Governments, defence services, Corporates, and other agencies, who are in need of security, surveillance and safety. Biometrics is considered far superior to several other common means of confirming identity. Biometrics also helps in protecting of privacy by erecting a barrier between personal data and unauthorised access.

Currently, various biometrics technologies i.e DNA residue, voice recognition, hand morphology, dynamic signature, iris recognition, face recognition, and fingerprints are being tried and adopted world over.

Biometrics usage globally by sector is estimated at: Fingerprint Identification 44%; Facial Recognition 19%; Hand Geometry 9%; Iris Verification 7%; Voice Verification 4%; Signature Verification 2%; Multi-modal Verification 4%; and Middleware 11%.
India, which is perpetually under the threat of terrorism and security breaches, has started adopting various biometrics technologies in a big way. Biometrics is no more a hype in the country, but is a fast becoming reality. Among the current Biometric Projects, most prominent ones are: Driving Licence  & Vehicle registration; Access control, Land record management; authentication; Document registration; Criminal Identification in Police; and e-Payments/Security trading.

Immediate future holds huge potential for Biometrics in projects like e-Passport, National ID card, and Income tax PAN identity.

Biometrics applications distribution in India is roughly Time & Attendance 65%, Data Security & Access Control 30 and Others 5%.

BiometricsIndia Expo 2008, the 2nd International Conference and Exhibition, will be held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, India on August 27-29, 2008. The event will be once again co-located with SmartCards Expo 2008, RFidIndia Expo 2007, e-Security Expo 2008 and a new event: e-PaymentIndia Expo 2008.

India provides a rapidly growing, fast expanding, virgin Biometrics market. Come explore and exploit this market by participating in a big way in BiometricsIndia Expo 2008.
