September 13-15, 2007
Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, India.

In view of the rapidly growing level of security breaches and transaction frauds world over, the need for highly secured identification and personal verification technologies is being felt intensively. Biometrics, an automated recognition of individuals based on their behaviour and biological characteristics is being adopted globally by the governments, defence services, corporates, and other agencies, who are in need of security, surveillance and safety. Currently, various biometrics technologies i.e. DNA residue, voice recognition, hand morphology, dynamic signature, iris recognition, face recognition, fingerprints, etc. are being tried and adopted world over.

Biometric-based solutions are able to provide confidential financial transactions and personal data privacy. The need for biometrics can be found in federal, state and local governments, in military, and commercial applications. Enterprise wide network security infrastructures, government IDs, secure electronic banking, investing and other financial transactions, retail sales, law enforcement, and health and social services are already benefiting from these technologies.

The driving market forces for commercial biometric fingerprint systems relate to demand for more granular intelligent security systems that provide more access control. Biometrics will have an important role to play in the future as the technology continues to be used as a second form of authentication for online authentication, ATMs, and in devices such as PCs, laptops and cellular phones.

According to International Biometric Group (IBG), in 2006, the total global biometrics market was shared by the following sectors: Fingerprint Identification 44%, Facial Recognition 19%, Hand Geometry 9%, Iris Recognition 7%, Voice Verification 4%, Signature Verification 2%, Multi-modal Verification 4% and Middleware 11%.
The annual global Biometric industry revenue, according to IBG, amounted to US$ 1,539 million in 2005, which is estimated to go up to US$ 2,176 million in 2006, US$ 3,011 million in 2007, US$ 3,848 million in 2008, US$ 4,705 million in 2009, and US$ 5,749 million in 2010.

India, which is perpetually under the threat of terrorism and security breach, is gearing up to adopt various biometrics methods. The Indian biometrics market, which is at present mainly for access control applications used by the Defence and Security industry and fingerprint identification systems by the police administrations, is now rapidly moving towards biometric regime. Recently, the finance ministry has set up an internal group to finalise norms for introduction of biometric based Permanent Account Numbers (PANs) to introduce iris-based biometric PANs to all Income Tax payers from the next financial year. Similarly, the Ministry of Home Affairs is toying with the idea of biometrics based citizen identity cards (IDs).

BiometricsIndia Expo 2007

BiometricsIndia Expo 2007, the 1st International Conference and Exhibition of Biometric Technologies and Applications, is therefore a timely step to make people aware about biometrics technologies and applications.
BiometricsIndia Expo 2007 will be held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, India during September 13-15, 2007 along with SmartCards Expo 2007, e-Security Expo 2007, RFidIndia Expo 2007 and IndiaMobileForum 2007. Technologies showcased in these shows have inherent synergy and are being successfully integrated world over in a number of applications.

BiometricsIndia Expo 2007 offers an effective forum to global and Indian players to explore the rapidly growing Indian market for biometrics applications.
