Smart
Card market in India is already flourishing and is poised
for rapid growth with Government agencies, Banks, Financial
Institutions and Corporates, planning massive deployment
of Smart Cards in their activities. A high-powered
committee appointed by the Ministry of Information Technology,
Government of India, is currently working out a strategy
to introduce smart cards for Government activities such
as citizen ID, voting, postal services, Ration cards,
employees' insurance, Driving License, Ticketing,
pension records, e-cash, access control, banking, healthcare,
security, Loyalty and retail etc.
